NaturesLens runs small-group wildlife photography holidays in the United States, with itineraries designed around Bald Eagle, Harbour Seal, Humpback Whale, Otter and Sea Otter rather than general sightseeing. Current the United States departures include Breathtaking Bubble-Netting Whales, Californian Pelicans & Whales, Florida Ospreys and Sea Otters & Bald Eagles of Alaska, with time planned for hide, boat-based, flight and landscape and behaviour photography sessions. Why Photograph Wildlife in the United States The United States offers a range of wildlife photography experiences that spans from Arctic-adjacent wilderness to subtropical wetland, & our US programme covers three distinct ecosystems. Yellowstone National Park in winter is one of the world’s great wildlife photography destinations – the combination of geothermal steam, deep snow, & the park’s wolf-reintroduction success means that Grey Wolves, American Bison, & Elk can all be photographed against a genuinely dramatic winter landscape. In the south, Florida‘s shallow coastal marshes & wildlife refuges hold exceptional wading bird concentrations – Roseate Spoonbills, Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, & the prehistoric American Alligator all photographable at close range in warm golden light. Texas adds another dimension with the Central Flyway migration, concentrating millions of birds in coastal refuges during spring & autumn passage. Alaska extends the programme further to Brown Bears fishing for salmon at Brooks Falls. Photographic Conditions Yellowstone winter trips run January through February – cold, early starts, high ISO requirements, & 500-600mm for Lamar Valley wolf packs at typical distances of 200-500 metres. Florida wading birds suit 400-500mm in excellent morning light; close subjects sometimes warrant 200-300mm for environmental portraits. Alaska bear trips peak August when salmon runs are at maximum. Photography Themes the United States offers outstanding opportunities for wildlife photography, with the chance to photograph species such as Bald Eagle, Bighorn Sheep, Bison, Coyote, Elk, Grizzly Bear, Grey Wolf, Moose, Otter, Pine Marten, Red Fox, Sandhill Crane, Sea Otter, Snowshoe Hare, Stoat & Wolverine. These highlighted species represent only a small part of the wildlife found across the area, with many more species present depending on habitat, region & seasonal conditions. Trips in the United States are led by our team of photographers, including David Miles, offering experienced guidance throughout. Photography themes commonly associated with the United States include marine life & Alaska.
