Trinidad offers one of the most rewarding tropical bird photography experiences in the Caribbean. Combining lush rainforest, productive feeding areas, vibrant wetlands & remarkably accessible birdlife, the island allows photographers to work with an extraordinary range of species in a relatively compact area. This itinerary has been designed specifically around photography rather than traditional birding, balancing dedicated shooting time with a relaxed pace & comfortable rainforest lodge accommodation throughout.

Our base for the tour is the iconic Asa Wright Nature Centre, set high within the Northern Range rainforest. Here, photography begins directly from the veranda, where hummingbirds, honeycreepers, tanagers & parrots regularly visit flowering plants & feeding stations at eye level. By remaining based in one location for the duration of the tour, we avoid constant repacking & long transfers, instead allowing time to repeatedly work productive areas in changing light & conditions.

Beyond the lodge itself, the itinerary explores some of Trinidad’s finest bird photography locations. Forest roads through the Northern Range offer opportunities for manakins, trogons, bellbirds & hummingbirds, while a private boat excursion into the famous Caroni Swamp provides exceptional opportunities to photograph Scarlet Ibis as they return to roost in the mangroves at sunset. The schedule intentionally remains flexible, allowing us to revisit successful areas or adapt to current bird activity & flowering conditions.

Throughout the trip, the emphasis remains firmly on creating images rather than simply accumulating sightings. Dedicated feeder sessions, relaxed pacing & small group sizes allow guests time to refine compositions, work behaviour & enjoy repeated opportunities with many species. The result is a tropical bird photography holiday designed to deliver not just memorable encounters, but a genuinely strong & varied portfolio of images.

  • Day 1 - Arrive into Trinidad & transfer to Asa Wright Nature Centre. Relaxed afternoon veranda photography session with hummingbirds, honeycreepers & tropical birds - overnight Asa Wright Nature Centre
  • Day 2 - Full day exploring the Northern Range & Blanchisseuse Road. Search for manakins, trogons, bellbirds, hummingbirds & rainforest birdlife with photography sessions throughout the day - overnight Asa Wright Nature Centre
  • Day 3 - Dedicated tropical bird photography day around Asa Wright with relaxed feeder sessions, forest trails & hummingbird photography - overnight Asa Wright Nature Centre
  • Day 4 - Morning at leisure around the lodge before afternoon transfer to Caroni Swamp for a private photographic boat excursion targeting Scarlet Ibis & wetland birdlife at sunset - overnight Asa Wright Nature Centre
  • Day 5 - Day 6 - Flexible photography days revisiting productive rainforest locations or focusing on current bird activity & flowering conditions within the Northern Range - overnight Asa Wright Nature Centre

All personal luggage are the responsibility of the owner & we request that photography holiday participants limit their luggage to the equivalent of one suitcase, one flight bag, one camera bag & tripod.
